Abandonment

Abandonment is withdrawing from the commission of a crime. In some states, a defendant can claim abandonment if he withdrew from the crime before it was completed. For example, if Joe, Frank and Eddie were going to rob a bank, but a week before the robbery was to take place, Joe had a change of heart, pleaded with Frank and Eddie to not go through with the robbery, then called the police to report that Frank and Eddie were planning a robbery, he could claim abandonment as a defense when he is charged with conspiracy.
